Permission to Mount Hanging Baskets
You will have received a personalised email from us about mounting hanging baskets outside the premises that you own. This page provides a bit more background to this project and we hope it answers your questions.
South West in Bloom Champion of Champions
Sherborne town won Champion of Champions in South West in Bloom last year and this year we have been entered into the Britain in Bloom competition. This is the UK national contest and if we do well it will benefit our town enormously.
Sherborne in Bloom is a local group led by a team of unpaid volunteers who want to enhance our town for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors alike. This team of volunteers consists of retired and current business people, a couple of former mayors, horticulturalists, environmentalists, an IT geek – and several hundred hard workers who just want to change our world. 😊
150 Self-Watering Hanging Baskets
And the good news is that we have received an anonymous donation which will enable us to provide 150 self-watering hanging baskets for the buildings in Cheap Street and the surrounding shopping areas.
Each hanging basket needs a new bracket that will support its additional weight. These baskets will be provided and mounted free of charge to the business owners. Sherborne Town Council will oversee the mounting of the brackets on to the buildings.
This is a one-off project that is, in effect, a long-term investment for our town. The baskets and brackets should last for years and will provide just the environmental enhancement that the shopping area needs.
And, during the seasons, we will be filling them with blooms (again free) so that the shopping streets will look stunning. Sherborne Town Council will water the baskets as necessary, again at no charge.
But to do this we must have the relevant permissions. Which is where you come in. Because we will be adding or replacing brackets on building(s) that you own we must have your explicit permission.
If your business occupies a listed building, we must also have permission from West Dorset District Council. Sherborne Town Council are helping us with this and so we’ll deal with West Dorset District Council on your behalf.
So, please reply to the earlier email we sent you to confirm that we have your permission to mount hanging basket bracket(s) outside the premises you own. And, hopefully, that will be that. Sherborne will bloom!
