Royal Visit

Today, HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh visited Sherborne as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Royal party arrived by train at Sherborne station and were presented to the town’s dignitaries, including Mayor Cllr Marjorie Snowden:

The Abbey bells rang out as crowds of children and adults greeted the Queen:

The Royal couple toured the town, visiting the Abbey where they were guests at a children’s Mad Hatters Tea Party and they also dropped into a 1950’s coffee morning in the Digby Memorial Hall.

All too soon the visit was over and we waved goodbye to our monarch of the past 60 years:

We were very honoured that the Queen came back to Sherborne (she last visited in 1998) because we were the only town in Dorset that she visited on her Diamond Jubilee tour.

Maybe she remembered us because we sent her a gift of a Sherborne in Bloom shopping bag via her head gardener who came to Sherborne to give us a talk a couple of years ago đŸ™‚
